Health Possible DR is building a permanent free dental clinic in Batey Nuevo — bringing quality, compassionate oral care to families who have never had access to it. Together, we can make it real.
In the bateyes surrounding San Pedro de Macorís, thousands of families go their entire lives without a single dental visit. The result is preventable pain, preventable infection, and preventable suffering — in a community full of people who deserve so much better.
Health Possible DR is changing that. We are building a fully equipped, permanent free dental clinic staffed by credentialed professionals who believe that a healthy smile — and the confidence it brings — belongs to everyone.
"I know what it means to grow up without safety nets. That's exactly why I'm building this clinic — for the children who are living the life I once lived."
— Dr. Victor Amable de los Santos Jimenez, Founder
DDS · Master's in Prosthodontics · Founder, Health Possible DR
My name is Victor. I am 29 years old, born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. At the age of 7, I came to live at Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) — a family home for children in need. That day changed my life. It was a place of peace, kindness, and genuine care. For the first time, I truly felt safe, loved, and full of hope for what my future could hold.
That environment gave me something extraordinary: the belief that anything was possible. I went to school. I discovered a passion for science and helping people. And I set my sights on a dream that once seemed impossibly far away.
Since graduating, I've worked in underserved communities across the Dominican Republic and Brazil, providing dental and orthodontic care to people who otherwise would have none. Every patient I've treated has deepened my conviction that this work matters.
The community surrounding NPH — where I grew up — is home to thousands of agricultural workers and Haitian immigrant families with no access to basic oral care. I know these people. I was one of them. And I know what is possible when someone steps in and says: you deserve this.
Thanks to the generosity of donors from around the world, I have already purchased land for the clinic, completed the architectural plans, and installed the foundational infrastructure. The dream is becoming real — and with your support, we will open the doors and change lives.
Thank you for believing in what is possible. God bless you.
A batey is a rural settlement originally built to house workers for sugarcane cultivation in the Dominican Republic. Today, bateyes are home to large populations of Haitian immigrants and Dominicans of Haitian ancestry — communities that remain among the most economically marginalized in the Caribbean.
Most residents work in the fields from dawn to dusk for subsistence wages. Medical insurance is virtually unheard of. A toothache that would be a minor inconvenience elsewhere can become a serious infection — or cost a week's earnings to treat privately.
When children receive preventive dental care early, they stay healthier, miss less school, and grow up with the confidence that comes from a healthy smile. That's the ripple effect we're creating — one child at a time.
Dr. Victor grew up in this community. His vision is not just to treat patients — it's to show a new generation what is possible. When people receive care given freely, they are inspired to give back in turn.
The Health Possible dental clinic will be built on a 600-square-meter plot of land in Batey Nuevo, San Pedro de Macorís — in the eastern sugar-producing region of the Dominican Republic.
Architectural plans are complete. The land is secured, walled, and connected to water and electricity. What remains is the construction of the clinic itself: a permanent, fully equipped facility capable of serving the oral health needs of tens of thousands of people for generations to come.
Comprehensive oral exams, X-rays, and disease screening to establish each patient's baseline health and build a care plan.
Professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants — the front line of defense against decay and gum disease.
Fillings, extractions, and treatment of cavities and decay to restore function and eliminate pain.
Immediate relief for acute dental pain, infections, and trauma — care that simply isn't available anywhere else in the batey.
Child-focused care to catch problems early and instill healthy habits from a young age — because prevention starts in childhood.
Community workshops and in-clinic education on hygiene, nutrition, and prevention — empowering families to protect their own health.
A permanent free dental clinic is within reach. Every dollar brings us closer to the day we welcome our first patients and begin changing lives in Batey Nuevo — for generations to come.
